When we first visited this home, the family bathroom was in urgent need of attention due to water damage. As the only bathroom in the house, it needed to work hard—offering everyday functionality while also creating a sense of calm.

The design is centred around a symmetrical layout, featuring a dual vanity and shower to support multiple users while maintaining a visually balanced and thoughtful aesthetic. A custom, wall-to-wall vanity anchors the room, maximising storage and creating cohesion across the space. Subtle details—like integrated handle slots, soft-close drawers, and a concealed bin—deliver practical, everyday function without compromising on style.

Above the vanity, a long mirror cabinet enhances storage while reflecting light throughout the room, making it feel larger and brighter. A combination of recessed strip lighting and pendant fixtures adds warmth and softly frames the symmetry.

In the shower, a wall-to-wall tiled niche and elongated floor drain visually stretch the space, enhancing both flow and usability. These full-width elements provide practical storage and create a calm sense of continuity.

Material Palette: Layered Neutrals with Subtle Contrast
The space is grounded in a soft, natural palette, with an emphasis on texture and tactility. Slate-inspired tiles add warmth underfoot, while a feature wall and shower niche introduce a refined pattern that brings depth without overwhelming the design.

Finishing Touches: Bold Yet Balanced
To define and sharpen the space, black accents are used with intention—seen in the tapware, shower framing, and tile edge detailing. These elements punctuate the palette with bold contrast, adding a modern edge while preserving the room’s calm, cohesive feel.

The result is a purpose-built bathroom that feels serene, functional, and elevated—perfectly tailored to daily family life and a clear reflection of the client’s original vision.
