Seventies Stylish

When we’re invited to design the interior of a home, nine times out of ten our brief is to modernize a space, so when Bert and Jane asked us to ‘freshen’ things up, but keep and enhance the décor of their 1970’s home we welcomed the challenge.

Specifically, we were asked to look at their bathroom and en-suite, and then in a separate project, following soon after, we remodeled the kitchen.

The original kitchen was made of solid timber, and unlike many ‘plastic wrapped’ weetbix kitchens manufactured today, it was in great condition some 40 years later.
A seventies styled kitchen with a contemporary SPIN
Eighty percent of the kitchen was retained, so our task was to alter the kitchen but make the junction of old to new seamless.
A master crafted 70's style kitchen

Ensuite; clever tricks, trick the mind
When Spin came on-board the ensuite was an empty shell with no wall linings, no fixtures, and no end to the renovation in site. We transformed a space full of unfulfilled potential into a practical useable space that was as beautiful as it was functional.

The existing bath was re-enameled to look as good as new. The bath cradle was covered in new 4 inch tiles that extended half way up the walls and flowed around the room. This created a horizontal ‘waist line’ that created a watertight and easy-clean backdrop to the toilet and the vanity. A...
Warm timber and tiled walls

When full, the glass faced overheads blocked the view to the dining room making both the dining room and kitchen feel small and conversation between the spaces almost impossible for the 6 foot plus Albert.

All of the fixtures in the bathroom were original; from the bath, to the vanity, to the toilet suite. Carpet to the floor was 40 years old and showing its age. The walls were dressed with panels and wallpaper. There was little that could be done to change the layout, but there was little storage...

The existing bath was solid cast and enameled. It was stained from 40 years of use, and it was well used and loved and it had to stay.
The bath has to stay!
