Altitude Apartment

The brief for project 3 from Joseph was to create an inner city escape in his modern Penthouse within the Altitude Apartments on Kingston Street in Auckland’s CBD.

With the very strong chance that he would be working overseas for part of the year the brief had two distinct objectives. One, create a simple and stylish haven within the city for him, and two, create a low maintenance and beautiful retreat to be an attractive Air BNB escape for visitors to the city.

We added timber overheads and a large pantry to the existing grey kitchen for additional storage. We added a subtle waved tile splash back.

A neutral palette was used throughout the living space to allow the client to furnish the space with a myriad of colours to his choosing. We consciously chose a tone with a hint of green to add a natural earthy tone in direct contrast to the concrete jungle outside.

Both Bedrooms were very small.

Artificial turf and pot plants on the 20 storey balcony added some very necessary green to the harsh concrete and tiled façade. We repositioned existing furniture.

Because the apartment was both a home and accommodation we added lockable storage wherever we could to ensure some personal items could be kept secure when occupied by others.

Large dark tiles on the floor ran into and up the shower walls. Contrasting long white straight stacked subway tiles created strong horizontal lines that tricked the eye into believing the room was both wider and taller than it was.
