Due to the sensitivity of their lot, as well as, a spectacular view from the rear and side, the architect felt strongly that the solarium should be located adjacent to the kitchen, incorporating both a rear, front and side elevation. To achieve this with the severe grade on the side of the lot, it was determined that the structure should be multiple levels. This addition was to allow the outdoors to become part of the indoor space, and this was a monumental achievement. Having the ability to stand in the space and view it 360 degrees achieves multiple visual pleasures, as well as many functional purposes.
