Farmhouse
This farmhouse style home was designed by residential architect Michael Lyons for his family. The small scale is a response to its location in an eclectic, 50s era residential neighborhood in Dallas. Cedar lintels, paired Dutch hip brackets, wood vents, custom-designed entry porch brackets and a custom-designed oversized mahogany entry door add charm. The reduced size gable over the garage door was added to feature an antique ornamental cast-iron lantern, discovered in pieces at an antique store. The bathroom is a study in bold warm colors, textures and patterns; the bold wall covering adds drama and the dark wood floor adds warmth. Cedar ceiling beams, the mesquite wood countertop on the kitchen island and the antique carved wood pantry door (salvaged from a bank in the UK) all reinforce the farmhouse feel of the kitchen in this residential Dallas home.
