French Country Estate
This residence, designed by home architect Michael Lyons and situated near Gainsville, Texas, is an excellent example of how a site can inspire design and how an architect re-imagines that site. The French Country home sits on 100 acres of stunning countryside that includes a picturesque pond in far North Texas. Properly siting the home, maximizing the views and creating the proper entry drive to the house ultimately had a major impact on the home plan and layout. Turning the house, motor court and covered walkway connected the detached garage parallel to the entry drive downplayed the extensive length of the house. This also prevented the home’s views of the countryside from being partially blocked by the home itself. A 12,000 gallon water storage collection tank is hidden by a half round wall off the garage with a conical metal roof.
