Referred by Architect Susan Sherwin, we were hired by the owners to install Susan’s landscape concept for a truly neighbor-friendly front yard. The clients regularly engage with their neighbors, but did not have any usable or attractive spaces for socialization. After an extensive upgrade of this Goleta ranch house, we found that their soil was extremely clayey and embedded with construction debris and invasive weeds. It took a careful process for removal and clean up to install Susan’s design. She added a strong color statement of sunny yellow and white with accents of maroon redbud trees, setting the tone for a happy and relaxed feel, and made use of the deep front yard space, adding raised veggie beds and a flagstone patio.
