This design provides the opportunity to walk through a beautiful Mediterranean garden overlooking ocean views on Santa Barbara's Riviera. The garden has seasonal interest and a sustainable blend of succulents, grasses, native & other Mediterranean drought tolerant and Australian plants- a vibrant and diverse palette fills the open space with life and vitality. Many of the plants are selected to provide resources for wildlife and pollination of the orchard. Prior, the landscape was essentially a huge rectangular lawn centered on the space, separated with stone edging to an abandoned, fenced in vegetable garden, orchard and palms. The custom raised veggie beds are now closer & more accessible to the home's kitchen yet integrated into the overall design of the garden. The fruit trees grace the opposite side without feeling separate from the meandering paths that connect the whole garden space. One path naturally curves around a custom built deck in a subtle (and secret) heart shape to celebrate the couple's affection. The mangaris wood deck is used for yoga, picnicking or sunset views. Other custom works are integrated into the landscape, such as hand carved stone benches, a stone fire bowl made from rock found on site, a water fountain the clients chose, and other carved and natural rock.
