Historic Captains House Kitchen & Master Bath
Historical ship captains home overlooking Hingham Harbor MA. This home was renovated with great attention to detail in keeping with the period of the home. The kitchen needed to reflect that historical element, while integrating todays open spaces and high tech appliances. Everything is in the details in this uniquely laid out kitchen. The double 36” refrigerators are paired and paneled to look like one large ice box in a gorgeous walnut finish with period hardware. Coffee maker and steam oven are hidden away behind retracting doors, with a jewelry box surprise of mirrored doors above the coffee maker and behind the retracting doors to keep the cabinetry special even when functioning for every day tasks. Appliance garages hide away appliances. Pantry cabinetry is hidden behind sliding antique mirrored doors with gothic mullions. At the range a stunning hood with decorative corbels to the counter rises over a 60” range. Cabinetry flanking the range includes upper drawers pulled forward of base cabinets. The detail continues at the island with all custom detailed doors and integral toe kicks. The raised bar is supported by oversized pull out cabinetry and corbels fitted with molding to meld into the detail of the side cabinetry at the island – creating a perfectly weighted centerpiece to the drama surrounding the main island. A smaller island grounds the prep area in front of the refrigerator with walnut posts, open shelving, false overlaid custom drawer heads at the rear and fully functioning deep drawers with interior roll outs at the working side. The 6” thick sugi ban wood top is the perfect final element of drama to add history and age to a new and functional “furniture” cabinetry piece. The details don’t stop at the outside of the cabinets. Walnut drawers, roll outs, and dividers continue through out the kitchen maximizing efficiency with beauty.
