Limestone Oasis

This large freeform pool was built with a few different design influences. Although the homeowner wanted to create a natural setting with large boulders, the style of the home did not fit in with moss rock and a pond type design. Our solution was to use the natural look of large limestone boulders so that the homeowner could create the large boulder jump rocks with different elevations for his grandkids to jump off of mixed with a travertine decking and coping that pulled in the same color scheme of the limestone. The combination of the clean style materials with the large limestone boulders really gives this project a unique look that fits in perfectly with the home. One of the challenges we faced during this project was the sheer size of the water features. Although the scale of the project tends to dwarf the water features in pictures, there are 16 tons of boulders on the backside of this pool. To handle the weight of the stonework work, we continued the gunite shell of the pool underneath the rockwork and created “shelfs” for the rockwork to sit on. We also drilled and shot (4) 20’ deep piers under the rockwork shell so that the weight of the boulders would not cause an issue with the gunite long term. Overall the design turned out great and will keep looking better every year.
