This unique geometric pool was designed with entertainment in mind. The owner was very specific on wanting to keep with the materials of the home, but wanted a design that used multiple elevations and multiple features to create separate spaces for the different age groups that would be using the backyard. One of the critical pieces to this design with the protection of the large live oak that sat in the backyard. The home was designed around the tree and the pool would not be an exception. We had a specific radius that we could not impede with any sort of excavation or foot traffic during the construction and it heavily influenced the shape of the pool. Another challenge I faced in the design was that the owner wanted a view of a water feature from their master bedroom, but their windows did not face where we were placing the pool. The solution was placing the spa tucked into the corner of the courtyard with a waterwall that faces the master bedroom, which the water then runs through a “runnel” underneath the decking and on into the pool. The homeowner loves the feature that also serves as a seat bench for the lower decking next to the pool. All together, the use of silver travertine on the decking, and the ivory travertine coping works perfectly with the mixed sawn lueders stonework that was already on the home to create the perfect backyard setting the homeowner wanted.
