Upscale Modern Space
The 8 foot elevation drop from the residence to the office cabana created challenges and opportunities. To keep the view of the pool and terrace from the home, the pool extended the length away from the home. Stairs and the walk extend from pool side to pool side to provide comfortable access for lare gatherings and allow full views of the pool 4 feet lower than the house. Four terraces were created, each with 2' high painted brick walls which created a gradual transition of the grassy hillside and numerous places to gather. Some places the wall footings were taller than the finished wall to allow the footings to reach the original grade and provide a stable base. The contemporary pool connects the office cabana and home physically and architecturally. The terraced walls also provide screening from the street (corner lot) and create a base for the water features. Two sets of four 12" stainless steel spill edges were both visible from the office and the home. Colored and textured concrete blended with the Leuters limestone coping. This coping also matched the house materials and colors. Square skimmer lids and deck drains reinforced the linear concept. Grass strips broke up the paving and blended the poolscape and landscape together. This further emphasized the linear concept. The large recreational depth pool has full steps across the house end allowing easy access and places to gather. More gathering area was provided with the pool bench extending the whole length of the pool on the water feature side and across the cabana end. Where the office cabana seemed far away before, the simple rectangle becomes the piece to connect everything on this site together in both form and function.
