Stunning Hillside Negative Edge
The reason to move to the country is to enjoy the view of the ¬¬¬¬unuttered sky and countryside. Our job was to help frame this view with an understated setting. Stone portraits extended to the patio and to the pool edge. Wanting to bring the green hill sides into the setting. Dwarf Mondo grass was planted between the stones. The “random” stone was cut to give uniform six inch spacing for the grass. To keep the “random” pattern on the pool edge the beam was shot in different widths so no expansion joint was created from shell to sub deck. The view from the stable below the vanishing edge weir and the retaining wall are one long boulder out cropping there a grass terrace from the pool to a lower stone wall. The wall allows the livestock to graze the edge of the pool without coming into the pool area. The equipment was located in an old generator building which was the only building left on the sire from the old hacienda. The spa was desired to be close for access and wind protection. The client wanted an understated waterfall for sound and to be seen from his desk. A natural overflow stream transitions the spa; pool space. The result is water, countryside and sky.
