Morada Lane Residence
This outdated bathroom still had its original pink sink, salmon-colored tub, and white tile floor and did not reflect the more contemporary style of the owners. To update the space, we kept the same floor plan, but had to gut the bathroom so the old cast iron pipes could be replaced (they were almost 60 years old and were due to fail). An awning-style Fleetwood window was installed above the vanity to let in more natural light and a wall of picket-style tile from Arto Brick Tile went up on the vanity/toilet wall. A floating vanity and wall-mounted Toto Washlet (bidet) toilet made the bathroom feel more spacious (the wall-mounted toilet is less deep than standard floor-mounted toilets). The salmon-colored tub was replaced by a much deeper white acrylic soaking tub surrounded by Carrara marble and HansGrohe chrome fixtures. Instead of a full shower door, the owners opted for the more modern look of a glass fin that allows the tub to be fully accessed when needed (such as when bathing children or dogs). The floors were tiled in 12" x 24" basalt (lava) tiles that had just the right amount of texture to create a slip-resistant floor.
