Santa Barbara Bungalow
This 1920s bungalow had fallen into disrepair, but had such great bones we knew she could be stunning once again! We started by reworking the floor plan to allow room for a laundry room inside the home. We added transom windows to the two bedroom doors to allow more natural light to flow through the house, we created built-in bench seating in the dining room to provide much-needed storage space and it allowed us to tuck the dining area out of the main pathway from the front to back of the house, and we added counter seating in the kitchen/dining room. We gutted the bathroom and were sad to lose the clawfoot tub, but were happy to add a walk-in shower clad in traditional Carrara marble. The kitchen was redone in a fun mix of black cabinets, white quartz counters, and a white apron-front farmhouse sink. The original floors were beyond repair so we replaced them with a vinyl plank flooring that closely mimicked French Oak floors but would hold up to the abuse of moisture, dogs, and kids. The roof was replaced with dark charcoal asphalt shingles. The exterior got a refresh with a new mailbox, welcoming porch light, address numerals, and of course fresh paint! We added a white picket fence and double-gate with built-in planter boxes to up the charm factor and curb appeal! The back ancillary cottage received the same new roof and paint colors and a new flagstone patio.
