Pool House
DETACHED OUT BUILDNG- POOL HOUSE
The detached out building desired by the client was a pool house structure capable of a full kitchen, full bathroom and entertaining area inside and outside next to the pool that was 6’ below the basement floor of this 5 year old house. This remote location proved to be the most challenging part of this project.
The final design incorporated a v shape with the Great room in the center with cathedral ceiling and large Palladian windows in both gable ends. This half round shape was carried out thru to a barrel vault ceiling over the front porch supported with twin columns. The cherry cabinetry and granite countertop kitchen is set off by the glass tile backsplash. The bathroom, on the other side of the great room, featured a vanity cabinet and mirror ensemble. The interior decorator faux finished the walls and place at random the same glass tiles used on the shower walls. The overall floor in the entire pool house was an acid etched concrete finish.
As beautiful as it was, it took a long time and a tremendous amount of work just to get all the utilities back to this lower location. A small road was created in this yard for almost a year. The waste system required a pump and piping all the way around the house and to the street. Getting cold water in the same trench, with the gas main, the electrical main and the cable was the ultimate in success and scheduling without tearing up each others work.
The pool house building was also heated and cooled by a heat pump. Hot water was provided by a gas fired, tank less, water heater. The cooking area was outside and highlighted by the grill unit set in granite countertops. A 400,000 btu gas water heater for the whirlpool and fire pit was part of the sizing requirements for the overall gas service.
The homeowner’s final project included brick retaining walls, stone pavers for the pool decking, low voltage up lighting highlighting the final landscaping.
