Scofield Kitchen
The goal was to remodel this kitchen with modern day conveniences while staying with a very limited budget.
A complete make over required all new cabinets, a few new appliances, plumbing fixtures, new flooring, better lighting and a fresh paint job would make this 1960’s kitchen a more functional place to cook.
The design relocated the range top to the peninsula for better working area on each side. A down draft unit takes care of venting while leaving a very clean look.
The refrigerator was relocated to the old range area and double ovens were placed in its old location. A short partition wall was removed to expand the kitchen cabinet area into the eating area.
IKEA cabinets rescued the budget. These cabinets were purchased for less than $5,000 and made the entire kitchen affordable. The clients drove to Atlanta to pick up the cabinets and then assembled all the boxes for us to install. These cabinets only come in certain sizes, so careful planning went into the design. Only one cabinet had to be fabricated to house cookie sheets next to the refrigerator.
A requirement of the owner was to have quartz countertops, white appliances and a cork floor. With the savings on the cabinets, these selections were made more affordable.
Natural light floods this kitchen with the existing skylights and the addition of task lighting by under counter lights and pendants make this an easier place to work in.
After it was all done, we came to the realization that this is a total “green” kitchen.
Recyclable cabinets, Zodiac quartz countertops, energy star appliances, cork flooring and glass accent tile in the backsplash helped the client stay under their $50k budget.
