Teakwood Laundry Hamper

Client hired Largo Green (LG) carpenters to design & build a dual purpose laundry hamper. 1st thing was to store dirty laundry, until full load was gathered The 2nd was to create a bench seat where one could sit while drying off, etc.. LG chose teak wood for its SPA-like quality, feel, look, & durability around water & humidity. It was challenging to soften the teak so it would bend into place. .

LG chose this spot to place the hamper. It was directly over the drain line access panel, and the side panel access for the jacuzzi tub plumbing. LG built easy access from within the hamper, as well as, removable feature for entire bench.

LG chose thin teak strips from the local lumber warehouse. The trick was to moisten the teak, then bend it so it would wrap around the frame.

Building the side slats wasn't for a novice! The bending had to be balanced with how long each slat could fir without too much turn.

LG built the hamper lid with spaces for water to run through while sitting. Also the dirty towels could dry out easier from inside.
