While well maintained, the homeowner of this 1964 cape style home wanted to totally update her entire kitchen, from appliances to lighting fixtures to countertops. She also wished to open the space up to the adjoining dining room which was cut off from the kitchen by a wall. By taking this wall out, we were able to provide a much more inviting area. Everything in the kitchen was taken out including the flooring and ceiling. New Maple white painted cabinets were installed around the perimeter and at the island, and a custom wood wainscot panel was designed for the hood over the cooktop. The Shaker style cabinetry provides a classic, timeless aesthetic to the space. Flat black cabinet hardware and deep colored quartz tops on the perimeter and island adds a dramatic contrast. We used a softly colored linen textured tile at the backsplash with coordinating mosaic and liner behind the cooktop that gives a sense of serenity. The farmhouse sink with a smooth apron front and the pull-down faucet in antique steel are in keeping with the home’s vintage charm. This kitchen is now a much brighter and cheerier space to work and live in, don’t you agree?
