Historical charm is met with modern amenities in this highly detailed bathroom. Rich in history, this home was originally part of a mansion built in 1929 by one of founders of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, George Jackson Mead. The 100-acre estate was subdivided into a 154 unit condominium in the early 1980’s, each with their own unique details. Filled with character in every room, this home needed a bathroom overhaul that didn’t stray too far from its traditional roots.

This bathroom is a heavily used space for both the homeowners and guests, accessible through a bedroom and a media room. We maintained the existing basic layout keeping access to both rooms, as well as the lovely window that overlooks the surrounding woodland property. An outdated tub/shower combination was replaced with a custom tiled shower complete with decorative inset and niches. A console sink keeps the space feeling simple and light, while the interesting hexagon mosaic floor tile livens up the space but is in keeping with the era of the home. Crisp White bead board wainscoting provides another traditional element and is contrasted by a neutral, off-white wall color that coordinates with the floor and accent tile. Creative storage was added by recessing a narrow cabinet with drawer rollouts and shelf into a wall behind the shower.
