Many years ago, when I was working with my mentor in his design firm, he would often discuss the practice taken by some kitchen and bath designers of offering a “free home consult”. It was his opinion that as a trained, experienced professional he was offering a home consult as a valuable service, and should be paid for his time. “Would you want to visit a doctor who practiced for free?” he would often ask, “what does that say about how a “professional” views him or herself?” Read on to learn more of why we charge a home consult fee.
