The Artist's Kitchen

The homeowner’s of this spacious 1956 Colonial wanted to create an open concept space that would look and function like a large work area rather than a traditional kitchen. Favoring an eclectic look that consists of both modern and rustic, KBDC Design Associate, Kate Yurgelun, created a design that would encompass the couple’s love of the industrial with natural textures of wood and stone.

BEFORE: We took out the storage closet, as well as this half wall that housed base cabinetry and the original sink and dishwasher along with bar seating on the opposite side. The resulting openness was dramatic giving the room a totally different feel.

BEFORE: The original kitchen was cut up into zones that included a breakfast nook with large banquette seating area, pantry, storage closet, work desk and sitting room, which made the space feel compartmentalized.
