Central Remodel
A Central Austin remodel in which the program called for a completely new second floor addition and a extensively remodeled first floor. On the first floor the Owners wanted an open common area for Dining, Kitchen and Living area's. Upstairs, the new second floor included a complete Master Suite; walk-in closet, Master Bath and Bedroom. Also, a handy second floor laundry room and an additional bedroom. The central stair tower was designed as an 'art wall' with large wall area's ready to hang paintings and family photo's. Directional lighting allows the Owners to highlight a specific location on the wall.
Energy efficiency features include careful window placement, large roof overhangs and new roof shade canopies along the west windows to reduce solar gain. A ventilated radiant barrier metal roof system and a central stair tower designed to enhance the flow of natural ventilation by creating an internal thermal siphon. These features demonstrate that one can achieve significant environmental compatibility without resorting to unusual building techniques.
