Walburg Beagle House
This project evolved from our clients desire to create a “Farm House” on the Blackland Prairie of Texas. The acreage around the home blooms with native prairie grasses and flowers while the area more immediate to the house allows for beds of herbs and planting future shade trees.
The home was built with low/no maintenance in mind with the selection of cementitious siding, metal siding, clad wood windows, and stone as exterior finish materials. Some areas more protected from the elements, such as the porch ceilings, were finished with a natural cedar finish. Energy efficiency advantages, by design, include site-sensitive orientation, a floor plan layout that responds well to the site's micro-climate, carefully sized roof overhangs, and an appropriate metal roof. These choices were further enhanced by integrating additional strategies of spray-foam insulation and sealed attics, a whole house fan, and installing a hydronic HVAC system which also includes a performance enhancing cooling tower. It all adds up to create a “High Performance Green Home”.
Both clients love to cook. The home is outfitted with fully equipped outdoor and indoor kitchens to provide more cooking flexibility. Outdoor cooking provides opportunities for the client to grill in a shaded and protected area when they desire to entertain outside or want to avoid generating more heat indoors that the home's air-conditioning system would have to then deal with. There is also a separate bakery shop for cake making.
The home theater provides “In House” entertainment without leaving home... for the movie buff and his impressive movie collection.
Lastly, the beagles are all rescued beagles that have found their heaven on earth chasing rabbit scents and each other across the prairie. The Farm House provides all the comforts for our clients and their pups without much need to leave home.
