A couple with young children needed their home to be more spacious and functional to accommodate a bustling family life. Their original kitchen was small and dark and didn’t feel connected to either the family room or the pretty backyard. Outdated bathrooms in the home were in need of an overhaul. The clients were drawn to Mid-Century Modern design and wanted to express their personalities with materials, color, and texture.

A wall of glass doors and windows in the space encompassing the kitchen and family room dramatically brightened the home and established a colorful connection to the outdoors. The kitchen was intentionally designed without upper cabinetry while a “disappearing” range hood keeps the focus on the indoor/outdoor feeling. The open and unified expanse is now ideal for family life.

In the bathrooms, imaginative tile design and color communicate youthful energy. The geometric pattern of the flooring in the master bathroom shower and the turquoise tile in the guest bathroom display a fearless attitude about trying new concepts. Black doors were used as a unifying element throughout the home, a creative decision that accentuates the modern lines of this inviting home.
