A young professional woman with a love of unconventional design ideas wanted to transform the dull bathroom in her home into an interesting and rejuvenating space. Significant planning and structural changes were required to take the existing master suite plus a separate bedroom and bath and create two completely new master suites.

This master bathroom marries a midcentury aesthetic with an imaginative and immersive pattern of porcelain tile reminiscent of a rustic barn. Covering entire walls and the tub front with the richly textured tile in intriguing shades of gray, brown, and blue is a powerful statement that makes the room feel larger. Inside the shower a niche was designed to fill the entire width of the wall, again emphasizing scale. The ceramic tile in the niche is organic and artistic with an irregular surface and a midcentury pattern. A vintage-inspired mirror with curved edges and an iron frame stylishly reflects natural light above the vanity. The rustic vanity with a limestone countertop in blue-gray with inviting texture offers generous organized storage. Casement windows with wood trim feature interior blinds.
