Mid-Century Modern Home
This remodel of a La Jolla Farms home designed in the 1960s by noted architect Dale Naegle imaginatively blends the divergent tastes of a young couple with school age children. The clients were looking for a historical home and were excited to be only the second owners of this expansive and distinct house. The home needed significant updating to accommodate a contemporary family. In the mid-century modern style of the day, the home was originally built so that each bedroom was only accessible from the exterior corridor. The remodel included the addition of an interior hallway along with other structural changes and an exterior face lift. The kitchen, dining and living areas were remodeled, along with a powder room and a kids’ bathroom.
The clients wanted to blend a modern living environment with Spanish-influenced design. The neglected beauty of the original home was meticulously restored in the floors and ceilings. The kitchen and dining area are strikingly clean and modern while the living area displays a reverence for Spanish themes. Careful attention to materials, space planning and focal points skillfully brings mid-century modern and Spanish design together, resulting in a dramatically original, stunning home.
