A young professional woman with a love of bright colors and unconventional ideas wanted to transform the bland bathroom in her home into a compelling and vibrant space. Significant planning and structural changes were required to take the existing master suite plus a separate bedroom and bath and create two completely new master suites. This refreshingly individual master bathroom was inspired by the home’s location near the beach and by a favorite painting of the client’s, “Francesca,” which now hangs on a wall in the room, establishing the visual vocabulary for the space.

This dramatic design started with the decision to build a curved wall in sparkling tile with intricate bohemian texture in shades of blue. The wall’s built-in curved alder wood bench anchors an eye-catching free-standing tub in chartreuse. Throughout the room, alder wood elements balance the bright colors with the earthiness of wood. A chartreuse wall of tile gleams with dimensional texture and features a trio of windows that bring natural light into the space. The alder wood vanity, punctuated with petrified wood handles, connects with a table and bench for quiet reading or selecting jewelry before a night on the town. This rejuvenating space imaginatively expands on the traditional feeling of a bathroom and invites a relaxed appreciation of endlessly interesting surroundings.
