Custom wood elements were an important design to include. The master carpenter made the island and the shelving.

Modern elements the Client wanted was a stainless steel farm house sink. Custom wood floating shelves storing every day dishes became a very functional design element.

The wood table looks like it can move, which was the intent BUT it is fixed and we needed to add an electrical outlet to provide convenience when doing food prep. The outlet is not that visible nor are the wires! Finished the open shelves with a more durable surface matches the outlet cover plate.

When I first met these Clients their challenge to me was, how to open up the wall into the kitchen without losing the charm of the Oak built-in cabinet as seen here in the dining room. During my first visit, I sketched a design using posts and a beam as shown here, that match the opposite wall...

This view shows the new beam and posts and how they match the ones in the living room - shown further back in this photo. It was important to update this kitchen AND making it still work within the Craftsman Style of the home.

The master carpenter paid attention to detail, in this photo you see how he cut out the shelf above the faucet to allow the homeowner with extra room to operate the faucet and clean behind the faucet.

A closer view of the wall cabinets with doors routed for glass. This provided a more open feeling for that area because of the glass. If the doors were solid Maple Veneer it would look too visually heavy and your average cabinet configuration.

We did not want the stainless steel fridge to be a monolith of steel, so we designed tall filler pull out storage left and right of fridge and took the panels to the ceiling. Adding a stainless steel door above helped to complete the stainless steel look, and adding a pop of color framed this...
