Soapstone Countertop in a White Kitchen

We were able to expand the kitchen, add a walk in pantry and improve the function of the laundry/mud room. White on white with Soapstone counter tops. Light brown oak wood flooring.

The header shown in the foreground was where the original wall was between the kitchen and dining area. We removed the wall and needed to add a beam, which is the header.

Soapstone Countertop for a White Kitchen

The second window in the background was too low to have cabinets under it. The client had a small table. We replaced the window by just changing the window height, now we had more wall space to provide more base cabinets and counter top.

This is the view from the kitchen into the step down laundry room. There was no room on this wall to add cabinets because the window on the adjacent wall was too low.

We kept the sink in the same location, relocated the cook top to the exterior wall for better venting.

This was the old layout. We kept the sink in the same location and by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room we gained more space and more natural light.

Old brick wall fireplace

This is the laundry/mud room which initially had a step down to a lower floor. There was a small powder room at the far end of the room, we removed that and pushed the W/D in that location. This provided more room in the space to create a laundry/mudroom.

This is the view from the kitchen to the front entry. When we extended the wall into that space by 3' we gained more space in the kitchen to add double ovens.

Hallway ideas

This is the view of the "what not space" that served as a wide hallway from the front entry to the kitchen. We took space from that hallway to add a walk in pantry

Painting the wall, trim, ceiling the same color as the cabinets helped to widen this space visually.

We removed all the soffits in the ceiling.

U shape kitchen

The original oven were recessed into a brick wall. We removed that section of the brick wall and built a walk in pantry from that location and raised the ceiling by removing all the soffits.

The client did not want this side of the two way fireplace because the room was not conducive for creating a sitting area around the fireplaced. The wall behind that chair is about the length we used to create a coat closet and walk in pantry.

The location of this oven was useless. The cooktop location did not allow for the vent fan to vent out. By moving the cook top to the exterior wall gave us the space to move the fridge and a new double oven cabinet on this wall.

The base cabinets were non functional. By raising the height of the window we were able to add more base cabinets and counter top space that expanded the kitchen and storage.

This view shows the door to the garage on the left, and the door to a very small powder room. It made this space very tight to enter the home from the garage. We removed the powder room.
