It is important to see what happens when a standard depth fridge is used in a built in configuration instead of using a counter depth fridge - the gray side of the fridge will be exposed, as seen in this image.

Changing the finish on the island added a nice accent to the space.

When the living room was opened up into the kitchen it was important to add key design elements in both rooms for cohesiveness. The stone on the fireplace is on the vent hood. The timber mantle above the fireplace was also used for the vent hood mantle

The existing living room was seperated from the kitchen with posts and a 1/2 wall. By removing that we were able to create a great room configuration

This is a 36" wide drawer - adding a partition in the drawer helps to organize the wide space.

Creating a built in bench, that matches the cabinets provides a custom look. Storage drawers are below the seat.

The breakfast nook stayed in the same location but it was key when redesigning the island that the aisle way between table and island was not reduced in width.

Soffits above the wall cabinets were removed to enrich the high ceilings of the space. This also gave us room to extend the ventilation hood to the ceiling.

The door into the laundry room was moved further right, when we removed the corner pantry closet. This afforded the space to add a tall pantry closet to the right of the fridge.
