Amherst, Transitional White/Gray Kitchen

The homeowners brought us in to supply cabinets for the kitchen project they were doing with Souhegan Valley Construction. They chose Ultracraft's Breckenridge recessed panel door in Beach White for the perimeter and Lunar Gray for the island. Ultracraft is a frameless, full-access line that is a particularly excellent value due to the wide variety of size modifications that can be made at no additional charge.

The homeowners chose a pale gray granite with dark gray flecks and veins for the L-shaped perimeter and the reverse for the island for visual interest.

The granite backsplash extends to the ceiling behind the glass-and-steel range hood to show off the vein patterns. It is 8" tall on the rest of the kitchen.

We used an extra depth cabinet above the refrigerator for accessibility; we normally recommend installing tray dividers and storing flat items like cookie sheets and cutting boards vertically here.

The under-counter double convection oven is a space-efficient alternative to two larger ovens in a tall cabinet. The lower oven will actually accommodate a 20-pound turkey!

Modern lazy susans mount to stationary shelves instead of a wobbly center pole, so they accommodate more weight. This picture gives you a good view of the Ultracraft Breckenridge door profile.

This composite sink has a low center divider to make washing large items like roasting pans easier. Note the graceful curve at the back to accommodate the faucet.

There wasn't room next to the sink to put a wastebasket pullout, but here in the island it's a quick pivot away when clearing dishes, and it's handy to the primary prep space.

The island is Ultracraft Breckenridge in Lunar Gray, a very pale gray that is only a slight contrast to the Beach White perimeter. The door and drawer hardware is from the Allison line by Amerock.

Drawers beneath the cooktop are a handy place to store utensils, pots, and pans, since there wasn't room on either side for drawers.
