Bellevue Total Yard and Deck Makeover
This project was phased into two parts that were built several years apart. The first phase of design and construction focused on the new waterproofed deck and patio. The second phase focused on the front yard and creating a new and more easily navigable driveway.
The waterproofed Ipe deck serves as an extension to the main living area of the home and a partial cover for the patio below, providing both relief from the sun and rain protection. The patio was designed to function both as an entertaining space and as a basketball court (aka a "spatio"). These spaces are connected by a generous stairway that provides some storage below.
The approach to this home's driveway is long and winding, and the old driveway was narrow, made of a combination of gravel and old concrete. The new driveway consists of a new concrete pad near the house, with improved drainage, and an asphalt approach. Retaining walls allowed widening of the driveway and a way to capture drainage. Lighting was carefully integrated, both into the walls and as up lights on the new allée of trees to help with navigating this entry at night.
Planting softens the edges of the driveway and helps to screen the neighboring homes. At the time this project was photographed, the planting had been installed for about nine months.
