Homeowner DIY Recreated and Improved
Sometime in 2020, our clients had constructed a makeshift covered deck so that their family and friends could gather outside safely and with some protection from the weather. The space was so well-liked that they asked Urban Oasis to create a permanent outdoor living space. Aspects of their structure influenced our design - specifically the symmetry and layout of the space.
The old deck was rotting and was replaced with a new composite deck and steps. The gabled structure allowed us to feature a new light fixture which is the focal point of the interior space. Our client wanted enough room for an outdoor kitchen, dining table and comfortable furniture - and the new structure gracefully accommodates two large furniture groupings alongside an outdoor kitchen with all the bells and whistles.
Beyond the outdoor living space, a formal bluestone patio was designed in front of the structure to provide a "room" in the yard from which the stars are visible. A second bluestone patio area under a beautiful, mature Japanese maple replaces an old, cracked concrete patio, and a new bluestone pathway meanders around to the side yard.
Foundation plantings around the deck and patio settle it nicely into the landscape. The finished project fits seamlessly with the architecture of the home.
