We used the level site of the former cattle loafing sheds to tuck in a 12,500 sf indoor arena and six stall barn on a 23 acre hilly site in Chester County without spoiling the view from the residence we designed up the hill. By emphasizing mossy colors of nature, the large building nestles into the landscape both summer and winter in the range of conditions from bright foliage and sunlight to grey winter days and fog. By integrating day-lighting from the roof and the perimeter into the concept for the arena and barn aisle, we reduced the lighting loads of the facility and made a glare-free work environment for horses and people.
