A Bar Above
This is one of the larger kitchens that Square Footage has designed in recent memory, but it wasn’t always that way. What was once a hallway leading to a music room, was eliminated and integrated into the kitchen space, which gave the room more windows, natural light and extra space. White cabinetry and countertops were used throughout, but we decided to go with darker tones for the accent pieces, so as not to feel overly light and bright. A walnut bar, barn door, trim and floor, helps bridge the gap between the two colours.
These particular clients love to entertain (as you can likely tell from the bar/drink station) which is why the space contains two oversized islands — one for food/drink prep and clean up, the other for socializing, eating and drinking. The overhead lights (made with hand stitched leather) and custom, oversized range hood offset the large islands and bar, helping to anchor the space and offset the other large elements found in the kitchen.
