A Bigger Splash

Because this home was still being built, our design team had a bit more freedom than usual. There were no walls to eliminate, no windows to work around, and no poorly placed plumbing. The only constraints we had to work in, were the client’s request — a kitchen that would be modern in design, family friendly, and clean, with a certain flair for the dramatic.

An oversized, window-seat bench was installed for lounging teenagers and their friends, along with scratch and fingerprint resistant cabinets. These matte cabinets (used above the countertop and for the island) allow for thermal repairs of minor scratches, and come enhanced with anti-bacterial properties — making them both suitable for repeated use, and easy to clean and maintain.

To create a clean and cohesive look we ran the hardwood floors from the living room, into the kitchen and even up some of the walls and across the ceiling. This helps separate the kitchen from the rest of the space, without having to close it off with a wall. It also helps to frame the most dramatic element in the kitchen — the massive, counter to ceiling Cambria quartz backsplash.
