Kitchen with Paisley Tiles

Before this kitchen renovation took place, it was a dysfunctional and badly designed space. That said, what it lacked in ergonomics and looks, it more than made up for in space, which gave us plenty of room to work with.

On of the more pressing requests that our clients had was to gain a view of their backyard. The most obvious and straight forward way to do that is to install a window, which we did behind the island on the opposite side of the sink — allowing for much more natural light and a lovely view when washing up. Both the light and the view help make the space feel brighter, bigger and better.

Another problem the clients wanted to address was the lack of ample seating. In response we implemented two seating areas: bar seating at the island (for socializing), and table seating at the island’s end (for eating). Something else the original kitchen lacked was colour and tiles — we added both, significantly, with the large paisley tiles featured on the range wall, and opted to forgo any wall cabinetry to let the tiles fully express themselves.
