When Three Become One

What was once a cramped, dislocated space containing a u-shaped kitchen, dining and living room, is now an open, airy and bright kitchen and dining space.

The original living room, which was never used by the clients, was converted into a dining area, while the original dining area became apart of the kitchen itself. Many of the walls separating these rooms were removed, making the three smaller spaces into one.

Doing so opened up the entire back portion of the client’s home. A large window was added near the middle of this space to bring in more natural light, as well as to create a unique banquet seating area. Having more and better access to the backyard was a major concern for the client, so we brought the backyard in as much as possible. A set of garden doors were also moved to allow better outdoor access. A nearby drink station makes entertaining in the backyard a breeze, as does the kitchen’s large island, and countertop seating.

New flooring was installed throughout the entire main floor to tie all of these spaces together. The blue, white, gold and cognac colour scheme used helps to do so as well.
