Little Gem Kitchen With Sconces
Like many kitchens of this size, the biggest frustration for our clients was that the limited space was not utilized efficiently. Space was wasted. The kitchen wasn’t functional. And worst of all, the already small space was made even more cramped by an awkward peninsula and poor appliance locations.
Our clients wanted us to address the issues their kitchen had with functionality and the effective use of space. They wanted their new kitchen to have more colour and a cleaner, more contemporary look with a Scandinavian flair.
The most obvious solution to the space issue was to get rid of the peninsula, which provided the kitchen with more open space. A pantry closet was removed to provide a spot for a new wall oven. The other appliances were also moved to improve functionality. Storage space was gained with butler pantries and shelving, to ensure none was lost along with the pantry closet.
We minimized the use of wall cabinetry in this kitchen, so that it would feel larger and lighter. It also helps to keep the focus on the tiled backsplash, the decorative range, and the wall sconces. The cabinets are in a custom green, providing the much needed colour that the clients desired. We mixed these with cabinets in a lighter wood to give it a natural, Scandinavian feel.
