Racine
Le projet Racine consiste en la transformation complète d’une maison de campagne située sur la berge du lac Brampton. L’intervention s’est déroulée sous forme de rénovation et d’agrandissement. Étant à l’origine une maison usinée traditionnelle, les clients souhaitaient transformer la signature visuelle de la maison pour une plus contemporaine afin de s’agencer aux pavillons existants du terrain.
La maison a été complètement ouverte sur son environnement afin d’offrir un espace de vie inondé de lumière naturelle. La terrasse existante face au lac a été convertie en un espace intérieur où a été aménagée la salle à manger. À l’inverse, le versant principal de la toiture a été rallongé pour offrir une grande terrasse couverte pouvant être complètement refermée par des stores moustiquaires amovibles. Afin de libérer l’espace de vie principal, la circulation verticale de la maison a été déplacée dans un nouveau volume à l’avant de la maison. Ce volume accueille ses occupants par un vestibule monumental avec une hauteur de plafond de 12 pieds, par où on peut apercevoir les autres pavillons du terrain.

The Racine project consists of the complete transformation of a country house located on the shore of Lake Brampton. The interventions included renovations to the existing and a new addition. The clients’ project brief included a desire to remodel the original developer-built house into a more contemporary style that would match existing pavilions on the site.
The new design opened up the house to its surroundings to provide a living space flooded with natural light. The existing terrace facing the lake was converted into an interior space accommodating the dining room. The main roof was extended to shelter a new terrace that can be completely closed with removable screened blinds. In order to free up the main living space, the vertical circulation of the house was moved to a new volume at the front of the house. This volume welcomes its occupants through a monumental vestibule with a 12-foot ceiling height, from which one can see the other pavilions on the lot.
