Les rénovations à cette maison demi-niveaux des années 50 située à ville Mont-Royal prévoient plusieurs interventions touchant l’apparence du bâtiment. Tout en s’inscrivant dans une démarche conceptuelle respectueuse des qualités matérielles, des proportions originales du bâtiment et de ses ouvertures, notre intervention rationnalise la distribution des matériaux sur les façades. L’installation d’une allège de pierre continue au-dessus des fenêtres du rez de chaussée sur tout le pourtour du bâtiment sépare les façades du RDC comportant de la pierre ou de la brique du nouveau revêtement de panneaux de fibrociment gris anthracite utilisé sur tout l’étage. La modulation des panneaux et la position des joints s’alignant aux meneaux des nouvelles fenêtres donnent un rythme cohérent et dynamique à ces surfaces murales. Les débords de toit important sont mis en valeur par le remplacement des soffites d’aluminium par des planches de bois teintes au couleur de la nouvelle porte d’entrée double en acajou. Une nouvelle marquise d’entrée en acier comportant un éclairage intégré et un plafond de bois tel que les nouvelles soffites complètent la modernisation sensible et respectueuse des caractéristiques originales de la maison.

The renovations to this 1950’s split level in TMR mainly focus on the exterior appearance of the building. The conceptual approach defining the interventions brought to the house are respectful of its material qualities and its original building and opening proportions while rationalizing the existing lack of consistency in façade material distribution. The installation of a continuous stone sill around the building, located above the ground floor windows, creates an important and visible transition element between the ground floor stone or masonry cladding and the new second floor charcoal fiber cement panelling system. The panel’s module and the alignment of joints with vertical window mullions expresses a coherent and dynamic rhythm visible on these wall surfaces. Existing large roof overhangs are highlighted by replacing the aluminum soffit with new wood stained to match the entrance’s new mahogany double door. A new steel entrance canopy with integrated lighting and stained wood ceiling matching the soffits and double door completes the sensitive and respectful renovation of the house’s original features.
