This adult lifestyle backyard in Brooklin proves beyond doubt that small can be beautiful. The owner is an avid gardener and wanted to have room to entertain small groups yet maintain enough space for lush plantings with an elegant feel.
Betz’s landscape architect managed to get a lot of features into this small yard. The home’s backdoor was two feet above grade, so the bulky steps and landing were replaced with a raised walkout patio for the spa, dining and lounging.
Twin sets of stairs lead down to the 13 x 24 vinyl pool. Since space is at a premium, the pool has custom vinyl over steel curved “wedding cake” walk-in steps instead of the normal moulded fibreglass steps. This leaves enough additional deck space for two chaise lounges.
The backyard’s low maintenance deck of architectural stamped concrete is beautifully complemented by the curving lines of the Wiarton pebble top stone coping. The soothing sounds of the spillover spa and sheer descent waterfall help to create a tranquil atmosphere.
