Practical Design Reaches New Heights
This new estate home in Markham is on a large pie-shaped lot with a sharp incline at the back. The young family wanted a pool but worried it might not be possible with the steep slope. They were pleasantly surprised to learn that with some artful terracing it could work perfectly and include a naturally elevated water feature.
This project was a collaboration between the landscape architect, Tracy Cook, Lomco Landscape Contractors and Betz Pools. It is often a challenge to create an authentic looking backdrop for a pool’s elevated water feature without it looking a bit contrived. In this instance the natural rising terrain fit the bill perfectly.
The focal point of the backyard is a 25’ x 45’ custom Gunite pool and spa. The masterful use of armour stones helps to lend a natural look while the pool’s charcoal stone coping provides a pleasing contrast to both the pool’s Azure Blue Pebble Sheen interior and the surrounding flagstone deck.
