Minimal Design for a Summer Sanctuary

This couple which winters in Florida built a summer retirement home on a large estate lot in Hampton. The builder recommended Betz, having recently had a Betz pool installed at his own home. The home sits on the high point of the lot so a stone plinth with house number was designed to ensure readability from the street.
Betz designed and installed everything on the exterior except for the sodding done by the builder. The owners preferred a clean modern look.
The entire area is beautiful rolling countryside with the terrain surrounding the home being no exception.
The home’s minimalist backyard was designed primarily for family entertaining and features a custom vinyl pool with spa, lounge area and pool equipment room.

The entrance to the backyard shows the sharp drop in elevation. To accommodate this and extend the modern look Betz designed banks of steps formed out of large floating slabs of acid etched white concrete. Each slab overhangs 4” which creates shadows that emphasize the dimension between each.
