An attractive central component of the backyard is the white Porcea stone and porcelain tile manufactured in Italy to withstand North America’s freezing winters. They are used here for the patios, walkways, steps and also to clad the pool’s striking 15-ft-wide feature wall.

The highlight of the 13’ 9” x 18’ Gunite pool is the custom 10’ sheer descent waterfall with its own dedicated pump to ensure a generous, smooth consistent flow. This closer view of the Porcea tile wall shows how a contemporary look is established using simple clean rectangular lines.

Another popular feature of the pool is the 8’ x 8’ 9” tanning shelf. Its uniform shallow depth renders it ideal as a cooling lounge area for adults or an inviting play area for children. The trio of nearby chaise lounges come in handy when adult supervision is in order.

The pool has a small 3’ 6” shallow portion along one side with a wider 6’ 6”-deep ‘plunge’ section along the other. On hot summer days jumping in is a favourite pastime. The walkway extends from the pool past the glass-walled family room rising up to a larger patio beside the main floor walkout.

The tall stand of densely planted columnar cedars provides a contrasting backdrop for the towering row of pergola beams which help to define the space. The outdoor dining table for eight is conveniently served by the modern charcoal themed barbecue station and wet bar.
