Barcode House is a 1,700-square-foot modern home in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood of Austin, built on a lot once considered unbuildable. The nickname comes from the exterior, white metal cladding in raised vertical strips of varying widths. Architect David Webber of Webber + Studio set the structure among the existing live oaks rather than clearing them. Budget constraints became design decisions. Baltic birch plywood with a clear glaze replaces sheetrock throughout, and poured concrete runs underfoot. Materials were chosen for honest origin and careful assembly.
