Stella NYC

Stella is a residence in Stella Tower at 425 West 50th Street in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen. Designed by Ralph Walker in 1927 for the New York Telephone Company and later converted to fifty-one residences, it is one of the city's notable Art Deco buildings, with handcrafted brick, dramatic setbacks, ceilings up to fourteen feet, and floor-to-ceiling casement windows. The clients are an Austin couple, and this is their first New York home. The brief was a space that felt small but richly made: handcrafted, tactile, usable, never precious. Cravotta Interiors made no structural changes, working entirely through furniture, rugs, art, and drapery. The windowless den is painted in dark graphic blues and grays for an artful, cozy feel, with a BDDW coffee table, a sofa that converts for guests, and art by Kate Breakey.
