West 9th is a historic home in the Clarksville neighborhood of Central Austin, the most recent of many projects Cravotta Interiors has designed for this client. The house was built in 1934. It was taken down to the studs, keeping the original staircase and the downstairs longleaf pine floors. Everything else was restored or made for the house. The clients wanted a home they use fully, every room, every day, whether it is the two of them or a house full of family and friends. Cravotta designed the millwork and metalwork throughout and had it built by his furniture makers rather than a cabinet shop. Deep wire-brushed white oak, a La Cornue range, handmade tile, and suspended white oak shelving define the kitchen. Art and objects Cravotta collected on his travels run through the rooms.
