Opening up this kitchen to the family room wasn't feasible due to a grand staircase separating the two spaces. To make the kitchen feel more spacious, we kept all the cabinets to one side of the kitchen and designed a large island with seating and extra storage space for infrequently used items.

Widening the cased opening between the beverage bar and the kitchen brought the two spaces together and made both areas feel more spacious. This also freed up the traffic pattern into the kitchen from the back door.
